In the United States, neon lights are synonymous to the Times Square in New York, where everything is happy, lively, and nice. But will the lights soon go off? Business Insider clued us in.
“Taking down the signs would not only harm the tourism industry but would also hurt the building owners. One Times Square, the mostly vacant 25-story building where the Times Square ball drops on New Year’s Eve, generates more than $23 million a year in advertising revenue, according to The Wall Street Journal. Billboards adorning the building advertise products from Anheuser-Busch, Dunkin’ Donuts, Sony, Toshiba, and others. About 50 million people pass through the “crossroads of the world” each year, according to Travel & Leisure magazine.”

If you would like to make your own mini-neon signs then check out this blog post from A Practical Wedding. “After seeing cheeky neon signs pop up in workspaces and at conferences, I kept eagerly waiting for them to make an appearance at real life weddings (because that’s usually how these things go) until I realized something: neon signs are expensive. Like, can’t even buy on Craigslist expensive. I know, because I’ve tried. So earlier this year, I made it my personal mission to see if I could figure out a way to… fake a neon sign. Preferably one that doesn’t require a degree in electrical engineering. And a few weeks ago, I found it: a magical little tool called EL wire.”
